The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the Odu’a Investment Foundation unveiled the Byte Busters after-school Coding Club at Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta South LG, Ogun State. This initiative is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to establish coding clubs across the 137 Local Governments in South-West Nigeria.

Students of ABEOGRAMS eagerly responded to the pitch delivered by our dedicated project officers, Temilorun Okediji and Adeyinka Babalola. Following the pitch, over 300 students participated in the admission assessments, with 100 talented individuals making the final shortlist to join the Byte Busters.

In preparation for the club’s activities and to gauge the initial skill levels of the students, our standard baseline assessment was administered to all Byte Busters between July 9th and 11th, 2024. The baseline assessment was developed by DEFINED Project Director, Professor Seun Kolade of Sheffield Business School, Sheffield Hallam University. The feedback from these sessions highlighted the necessity for basic computer appreciation classes to enhance the students' foundational skills. Responding to this need, our team has organized a bonus Computer Appreciation Session, scheduled to take place shortly.

Club activities are set to commence with the new academic session in September/October 2024. The curriculum will include coding classes, hands-on projects, collaborative activities, and showcases. These initiatives aim to foster a vibrant learning environment where students can develop their coding skills and creativity.

The Byte Busters program envisions a future where every child in Southwest Nigeria is a proficient coder, equipped with the skills to innovate and create. Currently, the program boasts 200 registered Byte Busters across Oyo and Ogun States. With the new school year beginning in September 2024, the program will expand to other states in the Southwest region.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to inspire and nurture the next generation of tech-savvy innovators in Nigeria.
